Guaranteed Auto Protection (GAP)
If your vehicle is declared a total loss by your insurance company, the value that your insurance company places on your totaled vehicle may not cover the amount needed to pay off your finance or lease contract. Auto insurance companies will generally pay the “fair market value” of the totaled vehicle minus any auto insurance deductible.
This leaves any remainder owed to a lending institution as a financial obligation to you (the owner of the totaled vehicle) unless you have Guaranteed Auto Protection (GAP).
GAP is a policy that is designed to protect you from an unexpected financial obligation if your vehicle is declared a total loss from causes such as accident, fire, theft, or flood.
GAP will pay the difference between your vehicles “fair market value” and the balance on your finance or lease contract including up to $1,000.00 of your auto insurance deductible (if applicable) in most cases.
Guaranteed Auto Protection is only available at the time of vehicle purchase or lease. Ask your Scion financial services representative for GAP.
